  What is a Goldendoodle!?

Great question! As you may have guessed a Goldendoodle is a cross between a Golden Retriever and a Poodle. You'll see different terms thrown out in the "doodle world" such as F1, F1b, F2, F2b and F3. This is used to describe the generation of the Goldendoodle.

F1= 1st generation, A Golden Retriever bred to a Poodle
F1b= An F1 Goldendoodle bred (b)ack to a Poodle
F2= 2nd generation, An F1 Goldendoodle bred to another F1 Goldendoodle
F2b= An F2 Goldendoodle bred (b)ack to a Poodle
F3= Also called "multigen" This is where it gets a little complicated. This is a third generation or any mix of the generations described above.

*Goldendoodles can be created by breeding a Golden Retriever with ANY SIZE Poodle. This results in a wide range of sizes.

    History

In the 1990's breeders in the Americans and Australia started to breed the first known Goldendoodles in hopes of developing a service dog for disabled people with allergies. The outcome was phenomenal! They created a breed of dog that possessed the intelligence of the Poodle and the train-ability of the Golden Retriever, thus making (in my opinion) the best family dog!

    Personality Traits

Goldendoodles LOVE people! If I could sum them up in just THREE words I would use, SWEET, SMART and SNUGLY. They live to please and are very social and loyal to their owners. They are especially great for families with children. They are EXTREMELY smart, have amazing dispositions and are highly trainable! Goldendoodles are usually non-shedding, making them an excellent choice for families with dog dander allergies. They do require regular exercise and regular grooming. The amount of time invested in grooming will depend on the coat type of the individual puppy. Oh AND another HUGE plus is they have a long life expectancy of about 15 years!
